In 2007, the prevention of incidents and accidents, as well as the protection of employee health, continued to be the most important aspects of the Deceuninck corporate policy. The worldwide development and implementation of new safety regulations and procedures, and the continued organization of training sessions has led to a spectacular decline in the number of accidents, with and without absence from work.
At a Group level, the index for the number of hours lost due to industrial accidents (Eg) declined by 25 %. The production units in Hooglede, Diksmuide, France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey and the United States had a better score than the Group average. An extraordinary decline was also noticed in the production units in Bogen.
The Turkish subsidiary, Ege Pen Deceuninck in Izmir, was granted an OHSAS 18001 safety certificate in 2007. An extensive series of training sessions has been organized for this purpose, both for blue-collar and white-collar workers. Also the production unit in Sari Mese, near Istanbul, has begun preparations for obtaining an OHSAS 18001 safety certificate in 2008.
